Re: Post-Surgery Breathing

#16 Post by Basicgrey7 »

I had double jaw surgery and had plates installed by my nose which I think caused the problems breathing.

When I was in the hospital, it was a little annoying but I could breathe out of my mouth. I was given saline I could use anytime, and Afrin that I was told only to use for three days, because after that you could relapse and have worse breathing.

I was pretty scared to use the Afrin and maybe used it twice In the hospital. It wasn't until I got home, two days after surgery that it really hit me. Honestly it was a 10. My face and nose were at their most swollen point, both nostrils were completely clogged and I felt miserable. I would consult your dr first, but I used qtips to clean out my nose and I felt so much better. I would make sure to keep up and it and I was fine. Please ask your dr for permission :). Mine told me no breathe right strips.
