Re: Inman aligners
General question to all I guess - obviously the Inman is often a good choice for fairly minor cosmetic issues... How did you decide to spend the money on something that most people might not even notice? I know people never see the problems I see with my teeth so I'm back and forth trying to justify if it'd be worth it. What swung it for you guys?
Hi Turps
What is the issue you have? Mines noticeable to other people I guess. I know that they are not perfect and all my friends teeth are perfect.

Hi Becki,
I have woke up this morning and my teeth have moved so much they are practically straight now it must be the filing! I did feel straight away after filing that they were starting to move again. I would 100% recommend the filing it clearly moves things along very quickly :)

Hi all!
I'm new to the board. Getting my inman aligner fitted next Tuesday......
Couple of things worrying me - hoping some of you experienced IA users can help..
Firstly, the speech thing! I'm a hospital receptionist so am on the phone and speaking to clients face to face all day. Even worse than that, I have to page the building constantly as part of my job (ie. speak to the whole building over loudspeaker to announce calls etc). EEK!!! I have a week off work following the fitting so am really hoping I'll be able to improve my speech dramatically in that time (my dentist has told me I must talk to myself constantly to try and get used to it!!). Any one else got a job so centred around speaking?!?! How you getting on?!
Secondly, I was expecting to have to remove the brace to eat. Fair enough. But my dentist told me that I would also have to remove it TO DRINK?! At least, to drink anything but water. Seriously? That is beyond inconvenient!! Seeing that she thinks my treatment will take 6 months (seems a long time compared to most on here?..) that means I will have to drink nothing but water for 6 months, apart from when I have a drink with a meal. Does that sound right??
Thirdly, my dentist told me I would probably lose weight as many patients report this. This would not be good for me! I am very slim already and really cannot afford to lose any weight. I've seen posts here where people are saying that it hurts so much to eat. I guess this is the reason for weight loss.. I am getting married this summer so this is quite a big concern for me....... Anyone have any thoughts / advice on this?
Thanks all! Looking forward to getting to know you through our shared progress reports......

Hi
Welcome! I'm 6 weeks in now. The speech thing is a nightmare. Mine improved over the first 2 weeks and then stayed the same. Constant lisp but people can understand you. I talk all day at my job and have managed.
2- no need to take it out. I was told u can keep it in for everything except very hot drinks. I'm sat drinking a coke as we speak. No issues
3- I haven't lost any weight. She just means u won't snack as much as u have to keep taking it out. Honestly, not at any point have u struggled to eat. Ive eaten exactly the same as normal.
Normal timescales are 6-16 weeks so 6 months is a long time. I have the expander one see if u can have that as it will speed the process up. And ipr will too

Hi Beckisnoop!
Thanks so much for your reply. It's great to hear you've had no problems with eating - I hope I'll be the same. And even better to hear I can drink with it in!! I get the impression that my dentist doesn't have much experience with the IA, so maybe she's just being extra cautious with her advice. I'm going to a festival in a few weeks and will be having plenty to drink then haha - thank god I can leave it in!!
As for the speech thing - as I suspected!! - but clearly you're managing so I'll just have to grin (or not!!) and bear it I guess. Well done for perservering. It sounds like many don't. I hope I have the same determination!! I'm preparing myself for maximum embarrassment and constantly having to repeat myself to be understood! Please god I don't start spitting over all the clients!!! Can't say I'm looking forward to that aspect of it......
I have no idea if mine has the expander but I will be having the IPR on every visit she said. Again, I hope my dentist is being over cautious with her timescale. I've seen before pics of people with worse teeth than mine that have had it in for much less time so fingers, toes and eyes crossed!!!
You said you're six weeks in. How would you describe the experience so far? Any regrets or do you feel it's worth all the negatives?!

Re: Inman aligners
No regrets at all. My teeth aren't 100% yet but I'm so happy with the results already. Most of the movement took place in weeks 2-3 I think. Now just fine adjustments. It's definitely worth the money and the occasional discomfort.
You'll be mortified with your speech at first so don't panic it does get better and you get to the point where u just don't care anymore. I work for social care and have meetings with people all day. I used to take it out for the meetings but I don't bother now.
Buy some mouth wash and put a little in a glass. When u take it out to eat or whatever, wash it and soak it in the mouthwash. Makes it feel so much cleaner. X

Hi Beckie and welcome cinders :)
Oh god the speech ha! I still can't talk properly had mine 7 weeks now but like Beckie said its just a little lisp people can still understand you and I don't think it looks bad in your mouth at all it's just how you sound. You will think that you look and sound horrendous for the first few days. Some people adjust better than others apparently. Luckily I work from home but I do speak on the phone as part of my job and to be honest I take it out for this. I actually take it out a lot like for eating and drinking too so obviously not lost any weight with it. I'd say 5/6 hours a day I don't have it in.
I didn't notice much movement until I had my teeth filed in week 4/5 then they just magically slotted into place! They look really straight now just need to move a tad more and I am hoping my next filing in 2 weeks will do the job!
What festival are you going to cinders?? :) I have a holiday coming up on May 15th and Glastonbury festival end of June and I am definitely hoping to be done by then!
How are you getting on Beckie? When is your next appointment? Any further thoughts on the filing? Xx

Re: Inman aligners
Ps no problems at all eating either. Your teeth will be sensitive for a couple of days. I have a key to tighten mine with every week and that makes them a little sensitive for an hour or so but still fine to eat :)
Re: Inman aligners
Hi Claire and Beckisnoop!
Thanks so much for your replies and advice. It's so helpful and great to be able to speak to people going through the same thing!
Well it was fitted yesterday and so far so good! It looks absolutely fine - I was never really worried about that to be honest - and the speech is, well, it's not great, but actually better than I thought it would be. I can be understood at least but d's and j's oh my god lol!! I'm going to wear it to work as I want it to do it's thing as quickly as possible!! Just got to bite the bullet......
I had a mammoth filing session lol. At least 30 mins, possibly more! I found it absolutely fine - no discomfort whatsoever. It just gave me goosepimples and made me shiver lol like fingers down a blackboard type reaction. My dentist (that's a hard word to say!!) thought it was hilarious!!
The weird thing is it doesn't really hurt..... My dentist did say that the one tooth we're concentrating on at the moment will hurt a lot after a few hours but it's been 15 hours now and nothing. Worries me a bit as I wonder if it's working?! It is a little achey on the insides of the smooth bits if you know what I mean, but that's it....hmmm.... Also, I don't have a key with mine - are they for the ones with expanders I wonder?
I checked again re drinks but she was adamant I shouldn't drink anything other than water in them. Bit of a pain...... May have no choice but to break the rules for my festival though!!!
Claire - I'm going to a tiny tiny festival called Subsonic. Went last year and it was brilliant! I've moved away from the big fests but Glasto is still on my bucket list - I've just never been successful in getting tickets and I've tried for about 5 years!!!! As it happens this year, I'm going to Greece the Wednesday after Glasto to get married :) Probably best we didn't get tickets this year - could have been a bit manic!!!

Hi Cinders!
Well done. The journey begins.
Honestly you can drink with it. I have never even contemplated taking mine out for a drink!
You will be surprised that you teeth don't really hurt. Mine haven't really been sore at all throughout. And you will worry that it is not working but it is. Mine are nearly 100% now and mine haven't hurt.
The key thing is for the expander so maybe you don't have one.
The filing is such a strange feeling! That will help the teeth move so much quicker though

Re: Inman aligners
Yeah my dentist told me I could drink with mine as long as the drinks are not too sugary! The only drinks I ever drink are full fat coke (which I've heard does horrendous things to your teeth let alone braces!) tea with lots of sugar and rose wine ha! I only really drink when I'm eating though so I take it out if I was just having a drink I would keep it in.
No pain is a bonus! It will definitely be working though don't worry about that. Hope you start to see results faster than me at 4/5 weeks!
Aww you should try glasto one day it is the best place ever ha! This year will be my 4th time and definitely my last I think - we have been so lucky every year with 25-30 of us all managing to get tickets. I would definitely rather be going to Greece to get married though you lucky thing!

Do you guys know how to post pics on here? I'm crap with this kind of thing!
