[quote="cinders"]Hi Claire and Beckisnoop!
Thanks so much for your replies and advice. It's so helpful and great to be able to speak to people going through the same thing!
Well it was fitted yesterday and so far so good! It looks absolutely fine - I was never really worried about that to be honest - and the speech is, well, it's not great, but actually better than I thought it would be. I can be understood at least but d's and j's oh my god lol!! I'm going to wear it to work as I want it to do it's thing as quickly as possible!! Just got to bite the bullet......
I had a mammoth filing session lol. At least 30 mins, possibly more! I found it absolutely fine - no discomfort whatsoever. It just gave me goosepimples and made me shiver lol like fingers down a blackboard type reaction. My dentist (that's a hard word to say!!) thought it was hilarious!!
The weird thing is it doesn't really hurt..... My dentist did say that the one tooth we're concentrating on at the moment will hurt a lot after a few hours but it's been 15 hours now and nothing. Worries me a bit as I wonder if it's working?! It is a little achey on the insides of the smooth bits if you know what I mean, but that's it....hmmm.... Also, I don't have a key with mine - are they for the ones with expanders I wonder?
I checked again re drinks but she was adamant I shouldn't drink anything other than water in them. Bit of a pain...... May have no choice but to break the rules for my festival though!!!
Claire - I'm going to a tiny tiny festival called Subsonic. Went last year and it was brilliant! I've moved away from the big fests but Glasto is still on my bucket list - I've just never been successful in getting tickets and I've tried for about 5 years!!!! As it happens this year, I'm going to Greece the Wednesday after Glasto to get married :) Probably best we didn't get tickets this year - could have been a bit manic!!!

Hi Cinders!
I had my IA put on on the same day as you! so I am at exactly the same stage... Don't really know what I should and shouldn't be doing but loving these pages as I've become a bit hooked at reading what people have to say!
Done loads of research when I got back from the dentist about hot drinks and red wine etc and everywhere said to take them out as hot drinks can distort the plastic and tea/wine etc can cause it to stain. I've managed to drink fruit squash in small sips with it on (with some dribbling) It's tough as I'm still trying to master swallowing my own saliva. I have an expander on mine which makes it even more bulky in your mouth!
Couldn't speak at all at first (still can't really) to the point where I was too embarrassed to go and book my next appointment with the receptionist after having it fitted! I don't have a lot of self confidence with my teeth like all of us so I think it's easy for everyone to understand when I say that I'm finding it really tough to go out in public at the moment.
I'm having such an issue with saliva, i cant stop slurping it from the top of my mouth (it's literally the only way I can swallow) I've been told this goes after a few days, can anyone back up that research at all??????
Anyway Just wanted to let you know if you're ever feeling down then remember I'm probably going through exactly the same thing!

Hey guys,
Thanks again for your posts. It is soo good to know you didn't have pain either Becky as I've really been worrying that it's not doing anything! I guess as you say Claire I should just consider myself very lucky! It seems from other comments on this forum that the majority of people have some degree of pain - some really bad!
It hasn't even been 24 hours and I'm looking in the mirror all the time for a difference hahaha - what an idiot!!! I'm too impatient!! I'm kind of over the initial excitement of getting it now and my heart sinks a bit to think I've got months and months ahead of it ...... :(
A question for you - I'm going out for dinner a couple of times over Easter - what do you guys do?? i.e. do you have to take a toothbrush with you to a restaurant and go and brush your teeth after you've eaten so you can put the brace back in?! I'm going for the full 20 hours a day of wearing it so don't really feel I can leave it out for a whole evening as it will set me back a bit.
Claire oh my god - how have you all managed to get Glasto tickets year after year?!!!! Honestly, every year we're ready with SPAMS and phones set up before 9.00am when tickets go on sale and just sit in a queue with the page refreshing until eventually we get a message saying tickets have sold out! :( I wonder if we need to upgrade our broadband?? Why do you think this will be your last year?

Hi Shabang and welcome!!
Oh wow, we'll be going through this journey together then :)
Straight to the gross stuff - I have been salivating more too!! I have to keep stopping mid sentence to swallow but don't have to 'slurp' - I've heard others on this board mention that and it does sound like it may be because of the expander? I'm sure that it'll get better for you over the next few days while you're mouth is getting used to the brace. I think the expander also makes it more difficult to speak. I think Becki and Claire have them - I'm sure they can advise you..
When I spoke to my dentist about how ridiculous I sounded she said don't worry about it - other people probably just wish that they could afford to get their teeth fixed too!! Just remember, it'll all be worth it in the end :) I think it's quite funny that I sound like this haha and am quite happy for other people to have a laugh at my expense!! In a few months, it'll be gone and we'll have nice straight teeth to reward us for all our hard work!!!
We can do it!!!!!!

Re: Inman aligners
PS - the whole drinking thing - my dentist seemed most concerned about tooth decay. Maybe having the brace in accelerates decay?? I've no idea. For now, I'm only drinking non water drinks with my meals which so far I'm finding ok. I'll stick to that as best as I can but as I say, it may prove impossible at a music festival! Maybe gin and diet tonic water lol??!!

Welcome Shabang!
Hahaha cinders I love your dentists theory - people will be jealous they can't afford to get their teeth fixed!
There is a nack to glasto tickets! We have a spreadsheet. One person/debit card can buy 6 tickets at once. 30 of us all in groups of 6 are listed on a spreadsheet with our registration numbers next to our names for all 30 of us to see. One person from each group gets everybody to transfer the £50 deposit to them and their card will be used to buy tickets for their group on the day. So on the spreadsheet there should be 30 names and registrations visible and 5 bank card details visible. (luckily we are all close friends and trust each other ha) you and the 5 people in your group will focus on getting your groups tickets first. That's 6 people all trying for the same group. You are all in a group message so once one group has tickets they send a message saying group 1 has tickets, so that other groups know who has them. Once your group has them you just try for another then another and you just keep going until you all have them. So its like 30 people all trying for your tickets. It's pretty fool proof, there has never been a single year where one group hasn't managed it we have been so lucky! I've had some amazing times there and there is definitely no age limit with glastonbury festival but we are at the stage where we are getting married having babies etc so glastonbury is going on the back burner for a good few years!
Anyway back to teeth haha! I salivated a lot too I used to suck on mine! no idea why! Did you guys get to keep your before and after moulds?? I keep looking at mine and I am so close it's really frustrating!

Shabang I was exactly the same booking my next appointment with the receptionist. When i tried to talk to her it caught me off guard how ridiculous I sounded, I really wasn't expecting it to affect my speech so much but I lietrally could not stop laughing in the middle of the dentist which I think took the attention away from my speech haha

Also cinders,
Just saw your question about eating out. I take mine out for nights out and meals out. Just because my friends are idiots and would spend the whole night taking the piss! When I get home and put it back in it feels so tight I struggle to get it back in! I suppose I've been quite naughty taking it out a lot! I would have absolutely no qualms about taking a tooth brush with me and giving them a quick brush in the restaurant loo x

Re: Inman aligners
Hi guys,
Just caught up on the posts.
Honestly, don't worry about drinking with it in. Claire and I have had zero problems with this and it hasn't affected the brace or the plastic at all.
In regards to eating, I take it out and often just put it back in. You can't always brush it straight away but that's okay. It doesn't cause decay or anything. My teeth aren't in any worse condition because of this. I do carry a toothbrush and that around with me at work/when I'm out but sometimes it just can't be done! And that's fine. I do carry mouthwash too. You'll find that your mouth feels terrible most of the time. At the start of treatment I used to find myself heaving from having so much plastic in my mouth. And when it felt horrible I just hated it. Now as a secondary to the brushing, I often swig some mouthwash throughout the day (with the brace in sometimes) just to freshen my mouth up. Makes u feel 100 times cleaner. Also when I take it out at home I pop it in at small glass with 2 cm of mouthwash in. Just helps keep it super clean.
The expander reaks havoc on your speech. Mine was horrendous for 2 weeks. Then improved and has stayed the same since. I have a lisp but everybody around me has got used to it. I occasionally take it out when ordering in resteraunt and things just for an easy life! Or if strangers call me. For meeting with friends I take it out for an hour to have a good chat. I aim to have it in 20 hrs a day.
You said cinders that you have been quoted something like 6 months?! I find this really hard to believe. I was quoted 16 weeks. Which really is the maximum time. I'm now 7 weeks in and my teeth are 90% there. I have 3 weeks left till they are straight then 2 weeks just to make sure they are perfect. That's 12 in total, so 4 weeks shorter than expected.
Take lots of pics. I honestly still take pictures daily. It's obsessive. I even do them from below to look at different angles and I've created collages and everything to compare different weeks. BUT that's good as it keeps u going and spurs you on.
Don't worry about it not hurting. It is still working. Mines only hurt a couple of times. But that's good as it's working. They definitely still move even if u think it's not enough pressure ... it is.
Xx

Hi Beckie,
You good? I did it with my iphone.

I am supposed to be at the dentist on Monday morning for my 2nd filing session which I was really excited about because they moved absolutely loads last time. But I realised yesterday that I am in London all weekend this weekend and I wont be back in Manchester until Monday evening aaaargh.
I have tried to call/email my dentist to let him know but they are closed until Monday for easter and he is soooo busy, I have no idea when he will fit me in now.
Surely not much longer now. I have only been back to the dentist once since i've had it fitted! I feel like I should be going more? How often do you go? Any idea how long you have left?

Ohh I didn't know you was from Manchester. So am I, my dentists in bolton. Ive been back to the dentist every 2 weeks since I had it fitted! I'm back on Wednesday next week. Will only have 3-4 weeks left then hopefully. I'm worried about relapse when it's all over
No I don't think you really need to go more often as they already look really straight! You must be chuffed! The process hasn't been as bad as I thought it's gone quite quick hasn't it?
