Just been back to the dentist. Spent an hour in there! Finally had the bonded retainer fitted :D it feels very strange. I go back next week for the night time retainer and the teeth whitening. I'm wearing my IA without the springy bit, at night until I get my proper night time one. Just to put my mind at ease! Here's a pic of my progress to date. X

Wow Becki your teeth look amazing. I bet your well chuffed.

I had my 3 week check today where he did more filing between my teeth and he has now said that he thinks I will only need two more turns and I will be done. I have done one tonight and then the last one is next week before coming back in on the 20th may.

I thought you needed the full 14 turns to get your teeth in the position the moulds show? I have only had it on for 3 weeks and although they have moved loads I am skeptical about it only being 2 more weeks as would mean I have only done 4 out of the 14 turns so how can that be right.
Any one else had any experience like this?

I had to do the full 14 turns to get mine in to place. Maybe u naturally have enough room for the teeth to move in to don't worry about it. If u get to the end of may and he says u are done and u don't think u are then u just keep the inman in for longer. The dentists only finish when u are happy. I was initially quoted 9 weeks, then 16, and was done in 12. So just have to see how it goes x

Hi all

My teeth are almost in place and I should be getting the impressions for my retainer next week. I have noticed that when I take the aligner out and especially after brushing a small gap appears inbetween my front teeth. Is this normal? And is it something that the retainer should resolve?

Ah amazing Beckie!

I am back tues where I should be getting impressions for my retainer, did my 14th turn this week but I'm still not 100% happy with my two front teeth but I guess they won't move any more with no more turns?
Either way they are a million times better than what they were.
Well done everyone! They all look great :)

My front two teeth weren't 100% but now he has shaped them a bit (one was slightly longer) you can't even tell. I kept my IA two extra weeks to see if anything else would move after the 14th turn and nothing did.

Kittycat if u have the expandable brace u can turn the key the opposite way and it gets rid of the gap. Speak to your dentist about this. Could only be done right at the end of treatment.

i can't believe how quickly they work! Can't wait for mine. Look lovely!

Claire, I looked on the website and I think the whitening is £190 in total cos it's £95 per arch. Or do you get it cheaper if you have had a brace? I think I will still pay it, after the money/effort to get them straight may as well

Becki, do you have the fixed retainer and the clear removable one? Did your dentist say one isn't enough?

Kittycat, the number of turns probs just depends on how much space u need making, everyone is going to be different so I guess u only turn as much as u need

Danniber - yes I do. My dentist told me that if you have one or the other then there is always 'some' relapse. Because I'm scared of them moving, he told me he always insists on having both so they definitely stay in place. X

Hi Danni,

I'm pretty sure a fixed retainer is suffice. I had a fixed retainer in my teens after wearing a fixed brace and it held my teeth in place. They only started to move when I had the fixed retainer removed but like Beckie said I want to do as much as I can to keep them in place so I will definitely be paying extra to get both. I'm there on Tuesday gonna ask what he recommends and how much extra it will cost.
My friend who is dental rep for his dentist told me he would do whitening for £95 maybe she got it wrong or maybe it's mates rates! Either way £190 is still cheap I think xx

Hi everyone,

Just been for my 3rd check up since having my inman aligner, I'm 14 weeks in so I have done all 14 turns. My teeth are looking great but I'm still not 100% about my two front teeth. I was expecting to go today and for him to tell me that's as far as they will go and take impressions for my retainer but he said they will definitely be 100% straight he just needed to make some adjustments to my Inman Aligner. He said it was going to hurt for a bit, he wasn't wrong! I'm in quite a bit of pain right now but i'm so happy that they are going to be perfectly straight as I really thought this was it. I am back in 2 weeks for impressions. So in total it will have been exactly 16 weeks for me which isn't bad as I really don't wear it as much as I should.
I asked about retainers, I asked what he thought was best fixed or removable, he said definitely the removable retainer because the fixed ones tend to snap and it's difficult to floss with them in. I asked if I could pay extra to have both but he said I really didn't need to and that the removable one every night for 6 months then just once or twice a week after that would be enough but if I really wanted to get both he would do it for me. It was nice of him to be honest and turn down hundreds of pounds so I definitely trust what he says!
Hope everybody is getting on ok xx

Hi Claire, thanks for all the info! Maybe the £95 is mates rates, that will be good if u get that ;) I think I'm defo gonna get it for £190. Wanted perfect teeth for so long so may as well! £900 for Brace and whitening total is still Sooo cheap.

I really wanted the fixed retainer but I might go for the removable after reading your comment. Just worry about them being unhygienic, I've read they can smell bad! :/
How long do u wear ur Inman for each day? Really worried that it won't work if I take it out all day for work cos everyone says it gets tight cos teeth move back if u take it out even for an hour! X

I buy 'retainer bright' tablets to soak my Inman aligner and clean it. I don't do it ever day though I do it every other day. They are just tablets that you put into a small plastic container and it fizzes up. You soak it for about 10 mins. I imagine you would have to look after the retainer the same way which could get pricey or you could just soak it in mouth wash.
When I first got it I probably took it out for about 6 hours a day but then as the weeks went on and they started getting straighter i generally have it out between 9-5 and just wear it over night and out of working hours. I know that's bad but I can't speak with it in and that would really affect my job. When I put it in it does feel a little tight but only for an hour or so then it's back to normal.
I do still want the fixed retainer but I'm really worried about flossing I'm obsessed! Never thought about how it would be difficult to floss
