Broken Brace

#1 Post by Johnnyboy »

Hi there has anyone got any advise as I had 3 brackets break off my top brace yesterday. I have had the brace on now for 2 weeks and am just starting to get used to it. I'm currently working away and am away for another 3 weeks. My next orthodontist appointment is booked for 3 and a half weeks time. At this appointment I am also booked in to have my lower brace fitted. Would it be possible for me to remove the 3 loose brackets? I don't know what to do as over 3 weeks is a longtime to get it repaired.

You should get your braces fixed, 3 weeks is a long time to have braces that are loose/damaged/broken, and even 1 bracket being off could mess with several teeth, which could possibly give you quite a delay.

I know you say you are away for 3 weeks, but unless you are okay with a delay in getting your braces off you cant just wait and do nothing.
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Braces removed since 11/06/17

I would advise you to call your ortho and explain to him your current situation And see why he recommends.

Yep agree, both times I've broken off a bracket they fixed them the next day. Just call up and explain. It happens a lot, so they won't be surprised.

The problem is that I'm out of the country and am currently working in turkey. Where I am there isn't any orthodontist in the area. I have removed the 3 broken brackets from my arch wire. I know this is far from ideal, but at least they not moving up and down the wire now. If I can find an orthodontist over here do you think they could repair my brace even if I'm not there patient?

Call your ortho for guidance. A temp ortho may do more damage since they do not know how the brackets were positioned.

I called into an orthodontist this morning near where I currently am. She wouldn't bond the broken brackets back on as she isn't my orthodontist. She removed my arch wire and said this would be the best thing to do to avoid anymore damage to my teeth and brace until get back home. I have managed to shorten my trip by one week, so only have to wait about 10 days before getting home. I've booked a new appointment with my orthodontist for 13th when I'm back to have the brace repaired and my lower fitted. Thank you all for your advise.

Glad you were able to shorten your trip and find an ortho to semi help. I do have to say, you will probably enjoy flossing without that wire!

Ahh - the pre and post brace days of easily flossing.

Well this morning while cleaning my teeth another two brackets came off! I've now got five missing brackets and no archwire. I contacted the orthodontist that i saw lastweek. She said that she had a free appointment at 10.30 today. At the appointment I decided to get her to remove the remaining brackets of the braceas it's been a real inconvenience. I think that it may of been the wrong choice of brace with my work and traveling that I do. I travel back home on Tuesday and am booked in at my orthodontis on Wednesday morning to have my lower brace fitted. I don't know what to do? Can anyone advise if there's a better brace to go for.

Do you have traditional or ceramic braces? Who is the maker? It sounds like the bonding overall was bad and perhaps it was not the type of braces you received.

Sorry - one more point for you to consider "Metal braces tend to be a little stronger and more durable, and the brackets on ceramic braces are likely to chip and crack. Clear braces on bottom teeth have been known to break just while biting down." This may factor into your decision

I got upper and lower 7/7/2016... Within 3 hrs I had a tooth move into alignment. I noticed it had started hurting very badly about 1.5 hrs after the braces were put on. It had moved and the huge space that existed between it and the tooth next to it was no longer there. Honestly it freaked me out (not in a good way). Also a bracket popped off. They were closed 7/8 and today 7/11. I have an appt tomorrow to get it put back on. I realize it being in place is important.

I had the Damon clear brace put on the top on the 17/06/2016 I spoke with my orthodontist yesterday an explained all of the problems I've had with my brace while I was away and that now I currently haven't got a brace fitted. She apologised for the inconvenience that I had suffered. She has booked me in for a long appointment at 9.00am today to fit a new Damon clear brace on the top and Damon metal on the bottom. Hopefully this time will be more successful.

Well I've just returned from my orthodontist appointment. She has fitted a new Damon clear top brace and the Damon metal on the bottom. She couldn't really see why the old one kept braking. The appointment lasted about 1.5 hours. My mouth feels really full now and bottom brace feels really tight already. I'm not looking forward to the next few days.
