How does that go? And once models are made are they sent to oral surgeon?

It's just like having any other models made, but you'll get more of them. My 2-piece LeFort's prep had three done of the top, and two on the bottom. Luckily the assistant at the OMFS's office was VERY good at doing impressions.

Usually one set of models will be used for "model surgery", where the surgeon will mount them in an "articulator" set up to mimic the action of your jaw. The surgeon will cut up the models (just like surgery) and then measure the movements made.
