I HATE MOLAR SPACERS!

#1 Post by BLKSAGE »

Hi Everyone!

Nov 21st I OFFICALLY got braced. My journey is going to be about 4 years due to being such a complicated case.
1. Underbite
2. Crowding
3. Slight Crossbite
4. Lower & Upper Jaw Surgery needed.

While I am looking forward to finally having a beautiful smile.. these first couple days have been C R A P.

SPACERS are totally killing me. Eating has been tough because my molars and teeth are so sensitive to everything right now. I've tried everything! Tylenol. Numbing stuff. Cold treats...nothing works and the pain isn't subsiding at all. I'm tryinng superrrr hard to stay optomistic and tough it out but I'm soo uncomfortable.

Dec 12th I get these stupid spacers out and I get my molar bands in.

Did anyone else experience this soreness/uncomfortableness/pain with spacers?! Are getting the molar bands just as bad??

HOW LONG WILL I BE IN THIS PAIN >=[ I am over it.

Sincerely
BLKSAGE

You may get better relief with ibuprofen since it specifically targets chemical mediators associated with dental and orthopedic pain. Take with food as directed on the label. Best of luck to you.

Hey your story sounds super similar to mine, I don't start until January though, and you have me worried now about the spacers! :S I've heard for some people it can take up to a week before the pain subsides so you may be best stocking up on ibuprofen and toughing it out just a wee bit longer! good luck!

Thanks so much Speece! I've been taking a lot of Tylenol due to it being the only pain killer that doesn't have anti inflammitory.

So ready for the spacers to be out >>>.<<<<<

Hey Blksage...you'll hopefully be happy to know that molar spacers are one the worst parts of treatment, if not the worst! I've had all manner of treatments in the past 3 years and have nothing positive to say about molar spacers! I had 16 of them in my mouth to start my treatment!
SARPE: December 19, 2013
Expander out/TPA in: May 13th, 2014
Upper and lower braces: May 21, 2014
Lefort I + BSSO + sliding genioplasty: June 11, 2015
Braces off: November 28th, 2016!!!
Braces on again, upper and lower: September 3, 2024

16 total?! Oh my god! Are the brackets better to deal with than the spacers??

I had to get 2 spacers but only for 1 night. They didn't hurt at all going in or even that night but hurt pretty bad the following morning.

They are offically out!
It's been about 2/3 Weeks.

Things to know for people HATING their molar spacers..
1. getting them out is SUCH a relief.
2. GETTING MOLAR BRACKETS FITTED HURT SO MUCH MORE THAN THE SPACERS!!! (My mouth actually bled)
3. Getting fitted for Molar Brackets < Spacers < Removal of Molar Spacers
