Wire out of bracket

Wire out of bracket
So tonight my top wire popped out of the end bracket whilst I was eating. It's not bothering me until I eat, when it starts to move up & down. I am due to have my wires changed in 6 days, shall I wait or do I need to go & see my ortho to get it fixed sooner? It hasn't happened to me before so I'm a bit unsure. Thanks in advance.

I've had this happen many times. You could try to maneuver it back in but if you're going back in 6 days, I wouldn't worry about it. You could even cut the wire before the last bracket so it doesn't irritate your gums. I've also cut it before.

Thanks for the advice, I've tried to maneuver it back into place but it's a bracket with a hook on for elastics & it's really fiddly. I'll just try & be super careful with what I eat for a few days. Just out of interest, what do you cut your wires with as it's useful to know with the wires poking into my cheeks problem.

Check with your ortho before cutting it! That means he would have to use a new wire at your next visit and if this is a finishing wire with custom bends in it, it will make his job harder. Despite what people think, you don't always get new wires at each visit. Especially toward the end. You said you're due to get new ones, are you certain you'll get new wires or do you just have an appointment coming up? Double check before snipping. Also? They are harder than you think to trim, unless you have early, thin wires. At the very least you can use some wax to secure the end so it doesn't end up stabbing you in the cheek.

I should've added. I only cut the first wire. Because it was the thinnest and it was to be replaced next appointment. Definitely do not snip the thicker wires. I used basic sidecutters to cut the wire.

I rang my ortho & he told me to nip down to get the wire put back in. I am currently on a number 13 wire so the thinnest I believe, I'm going back next week for him to replace with a 14 as he's really impressed with how my teeth are moving, exciting!! Thanks for the advice, on cutting the wires, I don't think I'll bother to cut them & just stick to the wax or my ortho has said to pop in & he'll trim them for me if I'm struggling. Looking forward to seeing more progress when my new wires are fitted now!!

I was shocked at how different all my teeth looked the first time I got a thicker wire. Suddenly everything was pulled into line and and it was encouraging to see the progress.
