Lish- I feel like your movement has been fast! Three is great!

I'm having a sorry for myself day because we had office pics and mine was a mess. Obviously I like having lingual because it means no braces in pics, but im at such an awkward part of my treatment that I can't even enjoy the small improvements. Top teeth are straight but my bite is so insanely bad right now that even with only top teeth showing in my smile, it is incredibly lopsided! Disheartening that we aren't even going to start working on fixing this awful bite until the canine is all the way in place, which is sadly going to be after my wedding.

After being referred to the hospital 3 months ago and my orthodontist re-referred me again 2 weeks ago (because they were confused why I hadn't been contacted), this week I finally got my referral!! My assessment isn't until November but dear god I am excited to get the tooth/ball rolling!!

Sorry for the slowdown lish. Wonder why wire change required a delay- I always heard a stronger wire helps bring it up, but I've been on the first, lightest wire this entire time.

Tooth is Still slightly under the gum but it's still moving. I feel the sharp edge through the gums- not sure if it's the tooth or the button. Very very annoying, irritating feeling as it comes through the gum. actually feels like teething since that's what it is! I am on the second to last link now and in the past 24 hours the final link has come up. I wish my next appt was sooner but it's two weeks. I guess I can't complain because I went through a whopping total of 5 links in 6 weeks. That's better than the entire first four months after the exposure combined.

Worst day! Turns out the tooth has not moved one mm this whole seven months. They have been pulling up on a chain not attached to anything since at least may! Tooth is practically where we started at a year ago. I'm a little pissed at my ortho for somehow not realizing that over the course of 7 months...

So sadly, I am a failure story. Appointment with oral surgeon for an implant we can't afford is coming up.

OH NO! I'm soo sorry to hear that! That totally sucks! Did you feel like it was moving, or just seeing the chain links come down? I swear I feel mine moving. So what next then? Do they remove the tooth via surgery and do a bone graft, let it heal for 3/4 months, then do the implant, let it heal for 3/4 months, then the crown?

Thanks for the the sympathy! It's much needed. I really didn't expect to be this bummed but this seems like the worst outcome. I swear I felt it moving! I can't believe my ortho never took an X-ray after may. I asked for one nearly every appointment and she just said since the links were moving, all was well. But there it was on the X-ray today- same position. Really a bummer! I have modified my morning commute and gone to work 2 hours late twice a month for 7 months to make all these extra appointments!!

I'm not entirely sure of the implant process but I don't think you're far off it from my internet clicking. Not sure if ortho treatment can progress til it's totally stable or what? We will have to see. I already have the space for the implant but I have to think there's some bone issues from the whole extraction of the baby tooth plus now extraction of the impacted.

Oh no, Shelley! I totally feel your pain, especially the work thing, having to reorganise your life around all these appointments for it to then not even work was definitely one of the most irritating parts of being a failure. I hope the implant process goes smoothly for you at least!

Thanks whimsical! I have met with the oral surgeon and it should go more or less smoothly, but there will be bone grafting required so it's going to be yet another invasive oral surgery on the record! I have been encouraged to try the exposure again, but it's not in the cards for me. I can't wait another 7 months "just to see", so I'm going to get the implant process (itself a 7 month process) started next month. The good news is the braces journey can continue in the meantime and she can start working around the canine to get everything else sorted out.

I did have it extracted. They put something where the tooth was to "rebuild bone". I got new xrays and it doesnt even look like i had a tooth there.

I wish I could have tried to traction the canine. But being 38 years old, i did not want to go through 6 to 10 months of braces to make room for the traction, then surgery and more 6 to 10 months to bring it in. With the aggravated possibility that it wouldnt move... When I was young (14) the only choice i was given was to extract my premolar to make room for the "maybe" canine, so i decided to stop the treatment. It was a time that didnt even have implants, so i could not imagine not having 2 teeth in my mouth. Had the ortho given me the choice of extracting the canine and using my premolar instead, i wouldnt have had so many problems. Wish i could sue the son of a gun. lol

I had an impacted canine that I tried to pull it down with no luck. Many years later (25) I went to another ortho who gave me 2 choices: try it again (make room for it, another surgery) with a good chance of it not coming as it had not come before; getting it extracted and either making room for an implant or using the premolar as a canine.
After 3 months of thinking a lot about it I opted for the second choice, as it was the only certain. Now I'm wearing braces to fix my midline and some crowding.
Can't wait to see how yours go. Good luck!
TinnyLInda - Don't they have to extract the adult canine tooth even if you are not going to have an implant? And would they have to have bone put in the place of where the tooth was - so that the premolar can 'live' there in bone? The route you are going was never mentioned to me when i was talking about what to do before i started all this process.
What kind of bone grafting are you doing? Your own bone, synthetic, or cow? If I have to get implants (only 3 1/2 months in of trying with the chains), then that's another decision that I'm not certain of. I know your own bone is best, but that means MORE surgery.

My own. Oral surgeon only offered that. And yes more surgery but he said it's all in the same procedure as having the impacted tooth removed. According to him it causes a bit more swelling/Pain than the exposure surgery, but nothing terrible
