Coffee and braces

#1 Post by catteethidk »

Hi, I'm a 19 y/o university student and I got braces over the summer. I know coffee stains your teeth, which is hard to take care of with braces. I've been trying to be careful with my consumption of coffee, and being sure to brush at least with my travel toothbrush once I finish. Sometimes this is coffee coffee, sometimes it's more sugary flavoured lattes (PSL season is upon us after all!) or sweeter iced coffees. What worries me is taking coffee to class and having a bit of a wait between when I finish my drink and when I brush because ofc I have to wait til class is over and I get back to my room, or brush in a public bathroom with my travel brush. I don't have it every day (2-4 times a week) but it's been causing me a bit of stress, am I okay by the sounds of it?

You are ahead of the game from my assessment, keep up the good work. Best of luck to you!

Big coffee drinker here! I try to sip some water while I'm drinking my coffee just to rinse my choppers off while I enjoy my caffeinated goodness. I get some staining even with good brushing habits but the stains are mostly relegated to the inside of my teeth and everything else stays relatively clean. If you're a coffee drinker I think it is nearly impossible to avoid all staining particularly since I only drink black coffee (hold the sugar and cream!).

I don't drink coffee, but am a huge tea drinker. I also drink sweetened tea and tea lattes too. I second the water drinking, only I don't do it in between sips, I drink water after I'm finished with my tea to rinse my teeth and "clean up" my breath.

In the beginning I was super careful to only drink coffee with a straw or have a glass of water to continuously swoosh with. Now... eh, I can't always be bothered when I need my caffeine. I've noticed very little staining overall with my once a day habit. You sound ahead of the game to me, so I wouldn't stress! Keep on and remember that whitening is always an option post metal mouth.

I drink with a straw. But I've gotten careless with this and swoosh around a bit even with the straw.

I too, drink coffee with a straw so it doesn't swoosh around and I brush immediately after so it sounds like you are on the right track.

As a nightshift nurse I unfortunately don't cope well without my coffee haha I have made sure I have water meanu so I alternate between them and try. It to leave it to long before brushing.

I had coffee a couple times since I got braces. I'd say to drink lots of water as others have said :)
