Swisscat, your pictures are very encouraging. I was here in 2006 when I declined removal of impacted canines. Now, aged 47, one of them has erupted and I have little bone around the lateral incisor which has become mobile. The plan is extraction of both lateral incisors (eek!) and bring the canines down. I have the added bonuses of my dentist of 20+ years retiring before Christmas, periodontitis before I start, and the orthodontist not wanting to take it on at the first appointment! I shall start my own thread soon but thank you for posting your story.
2005 Impacted canines resulting in twisted lateral incisor - advised: surgical removal of canines, followed by braces then 'pegging' of lateral incisor root - didn't proceed
2017 L canine erupted, bone loss around lateral incisor - advised: canine substitution by extraction of both lateral incisors, exposure of R canine, braces to position canines

Good luck on your journey, EyeSpy21! It might sound scary, but if you have a good orthodontist AND a good dentist (for reshaping), you should be very happy with the end result.

So, after nearly two years of having braces... I am now free again!! Actually, I have been out of braces for a little more than a month. It was not as wonderful as I expected: like many people here, I actually grew hyper critical of my teeth, and I was not sure that I was totally happy about the end result... mostly because I needed to get used to MY new smile (like, who is this stranger smiling at me in the mirror).

And for some reason, I am totally scared that my teeth will move again. I have two bounded wire (upper and lower) and a retainer to wear at night, but due to me clenching my teeth a lot, I know that my teeth could still move. So I am quite nervous about that...

But anyway, here is the result! When I look at the first pictures I posted on this forum, I find it hard to believe that those were my teeth  :-*
