Dr. J.: related point about not liking ortho.

#1 Post by coynold »

Dr. J,

I am at a crossroads in my treatment and don't know what to do...
My ortho. recently told me that I would be done as soon as the minor crowding on bottom is corrected.
However, I am having a problem with the front top arch. My bite looked great about two months ago...a nice overjet of about 2 mm w/ a slight flare making up the overjet....My ortho. put a reverse wire on the top to close it up even more...I thought to myself that sounds good to get it even a little tighter.....
However, what I think happened its that the wire pushed in my canines (used to have a curve to the outside of them going into a point but now look more in and are flat and actually upper canine bumps lower canine) and torqued out the four incisors (does this make sense?)...The central incisors now are about 3-4 mm flared out just over the bottom ceramic brackets. It still looks good when I smile...however where the problem lies: my front teeth feel like they are coming out of my mouth...it is difficult to even touch my lips together w/o straining...and just being relaxed I could feel those teeth resting on my bottom lip.....swallowing even soft food is difficult b/c my upper lip and lower jaw no longer feel right and my face muscles are even strained...my lower jaw feels way back...something is just not right.

I went in to my orhto. yesterday and he said everything looked fine, like he did not even hear me.....my point is that although it may look fine, it does not FEEL fine....he ended up putting on this flimsy little wire and told me to continue to wear the rubber bands......if he is not going to do anything else, I feel I need to see someone else. It's not about looks, it is about functioning...especially since it looked great only five weeks ago...I thought he would have seen this and put a big archwire to expand the canine part of the arch back up. Does this sound reasonable? Maybe I just didn't explain it to him well: I basically just told him that my frong teeth were pushing out and did not feel right......he said no they are not.....I know my own mouth. Any suggestions? (sorry so long).

I'm not sure what you are exaplaining on your top teeth w/o pics but maybe the small upper wire was used to allow the un wanted changes to relapse. Was your upper wire a reverse Curve of Spee wire?
