Mine said that even right after an adjustment I should chew gum. This is weird because I thought that gum is a big no-no. He said there is a special kind that doesn't stick and that actually helps the treatment (blood flow or something).
I wasn't told about *gum* but I seem to remember someone at the ortho's office telling me that chewing anything (instead of avoiding biting into things as I still kinda do) helps to both loosen the teeth and promote movement.
Wow! I can't imagine chewing my tongue, it hurts too much! I would like to know what kind of gum that helps your teeth move after adjustments! I want some! I chew sugarless gum but I don't think its helping move my teeth along faster!
My orthodontist has recommended that I chew sugarless gum right from the beginning. It does promote blood flow and so it then lessens the pain. I chew Trident because it doesn't stick to my braces. Xtra is a little bit too sticky.
My ortho's assistant told me not to chew gum, but that could because for the most part they treat younger teens, and maybe they don't pay as much attention to what is going on inside of their mouths.

I ask about chewing gum at my last consult because I saw on their literature that bubble gum is a no-no. But I chew Extra sugar free right now because I like that it unsticks food from my teeth after a meal. Someone here said it also sticks to braces. My ortho said that Carefree Koolers gum is supposed to be ok.
Yeah I agree with previous posters - in my orthodontic show bag I actually got a pack of sugarless 'dental' gum . Dental gum - that's gotta be good right!

Am I Enjoying It? "Hell Yes!"
My ortho gave me gum when I got my braces on, it is for braces. It is called Spry, I chose Spearmint. Here is a link to the site: http://www.xlear.com/shop.aspx?cat=Spry+Gum+100+Ct.
I can't really chew right now but it tastes really good!!!!
The no-no food list I got from my Ortho said absolutly no gum. I used to chew gum all the time because I'm usually very close to my patients when I'm talking to them. I want to be minty fresh. I'll have to ask about that dental gum or other sugarless. Thanks for the link!!!
