Oh, The PAIN!!!

#1 Post by bracesmom »

Hi All,

I got braces 3 months ago along with a palatal expander (same time). My teeth were sore for about a week when I would bite down.

Yesterday I went in for my first tightening. OMGosh!!! , I didn't expect there to be so much throbbing and pain!. My teeth weren't that crooked to begin with but it feels like each tooth had a drill that went right through the nerve. Maybe I just a wuss, but I just had to vent as there is no Advil in the house and I have 2 rowdy children to care for!

You poor old bracesmom.. hang in there! I know what you mean about the rowdy kids, I have three and I haven't even got my braces yet...I know when you're in pain you just don't want kids annoying you. Go lock yourself in the bathroom or walk round the block when they get too much! Good luck.

Thanks Snowbunny. Husband's on his way home with the ibuprophen (he used the last of it last night on his "body aches"). Before this, I would have said the spacers were the most painful before the braces (when you bite down mostly).

Best wishes with your braces. I know the aches and pain don't last forever.

I would like to know if there are any suggestions for easing pain as an alternative or in addition to ibuprophen without having to get Vicoden?

Hope your pain subsides soon!

I would also honestly like to know some good alternatives for pain other than like advil and ibuprophen! I think I'm like immune to them!

Today I had a horrible ortho appt! Well, in a way i guess it was good because a lot of things happened but hecka painful! I got my impacted cuspid bracketed finally, with a huge powerchains across that to the molar, 2 huge powerchains across lower extraction gaps, new ligs, a new wire with a new coil spring thing!

MAjor Pain! :x Ruthless ortho!

But he did get excited over my progress1 :D

Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!

-Hannah

Wow Hannah, I feel like a real wuss! You had a lot done. If I didn't have kids that I had to be alert with, I would have asked my ortho for Vicodin!

Belmikry:

Thanks for the suggestion. where could I find arnica? It sounds wonderful!

Bracesmom:

Yeah, I guess you could say I've been thru a lot but that doesn't make you a wuss! If I didn't have school and rehearsal and everything I would have had a vicodin too! No time to fall asleep! :(

Good luck!

I think the week of pain paid off! I can't believe the movement I got from my first adjustment! Not all the movement is good though. Some of my teeth look more crooked than before, but they are still adjusting. Thanks for all your support.
