Okay, so i got my braces off on January 19th. It was pretty fun! Didn't hurt at all. When my orthodontist polished the glue off my teeth it was super uncomfortable but it didn't last too long. "La Bamba" was playing on the stereo at the office, and the polishing only took about as long as the song. So it couldn't have been that bad.
anyway, so there was a cd playing the whole time in the background on the stereo. It played "La bamba", "car wash", "can't touch this" and some others. It was really upbeat and the assistants were singing along to it and everything. Everyone was smiling. There were other people getting their braces off at the same time as me.
So I was completely done, and they told me i had to wait in the waiting area because they had to look at an x-ray of mine (or something). I had been waiting for about five minutes when they turned the stereo up really high and played "celebrate" in all its 80's glory.
celebrate, good times COME ON!
Then every single worker in the WHOLE office came out and clapped along to the music and my ortho gave me my "prize" of candy and a balloon. it was embarassing but it was so funny. they took pictures of all the kids who had gotten their braces off and of course we were happy. Then they told us they had lied about the x-ray thing; they had only said it to make us stay. So i left after that and i was really glad my mom had waited in the car instead of the office. "Enjoy your freedom" the receptionist told me. "Oh i will" i told her, and of course I have. As will you all, when you get your braces off!
No more braces! (with a stupid story)

I love it when people have such a great sense of humor!! I hope my "debrace" day is as fun as yours!!! I have every intention of making a celebration out of it!!! I'll be 48 when I get these off and I intend to wear my finest ocean dress and heels to the office....I'm even considering a limo!!

OMG Aine, do it! That would be so much fun. Congrats, swiftchick, on getting your braces off! When I got mine off I was a little embarrassed, but inside I was loving it all
