Loop! Those look very, very nice. I especially love the pink ligs!

Good to hear that you are able to eat properly. I still have a lot of trouble with eating after each adjustment. Hopefully you'll continue to have an easy time with that throughout your treatment.

Congratulations and welcome to the club of the braced, Loop! Good to have you among us :) They look really nice!

I wonder if not having canines has something to do with the amount of discomfort you have after adjustments...? When my braces went on I felt some throbbing pain for the first night, the second time there was hardly any pain, and when I got my first stronger wire last week: no pain at all. On the other hand I have not had significant movement either, so I don't know whether to be happy or worried about it

Anyway, let's hope it all stays the painless way for you!
Case: Impacted canines, crowding & crossbite.
Treatment: SARPE 2004/10/6, RPE 2004/9/28 - 2005/1/31, w-arch until 2005/11/22, impacted canines extracted 2005/5/18.
Braces on: top 2005/6/2, bottom 2005/8/30.
Braces off: 2008/6/9.
Retainers, phase one: expanding Hawley retainer 24/7, bonded retainers on top & bottom.
Retainers, phase two: Hawley on top, bonded both top & bottom, positioner for night time use.

It's really strange not having ANY pain with these braces, I really was expecting a lot more discomfort. I'm the same as you Joplin, a tiny bit of tenderness the first day but certainly not enough to take any sort of pain killer or have any problems eating and then after day 1...nothing!

I was expecting having to be on a liquid diet and not able to chew things properly for at least the first week or so. With these, I've been able to eat all the things you aren't supposed to including chinese ribs, nuts and popcorn. I had to go back to the ortho to get a ligature replaced with a wire tie and the assistant there said I must have a high pain threshold - she couldn't be more wrong!! Can't help but think they aren't working if you can't feel any pain.

kk - I was thinking about going with
purple and blue for the ligs next time. I am definitely sticking with colour because I have all the things they say stain - red wine, mustard, curry etc

Well it's been just over four weeks I've had my braces on now and I've been noticing what feel like big changes to me, (but when you point them out to other people or look at a photo, they don't look half as drastic as I think!)
I notice when I floss it is really easy to get the floss through as the the gaps aren't as tight as they used to be, this is most noticable in the front teeth where I can actually see gaps, something I've never seen before because they were so crowded.

Here are some before and after pics (sorry for the poor quality in some of them!):

Similar Surgery - Those Mysterious Canines

#69 Post by Mslaurielynn »

Hi Loop-

Just been reading your story on those impacted canines. Just had surgery yesterday for removing those canines, the baby canines and one lower front. Sound familiar? They had to remove my impacted canines through the roof of my mouth - don't know the details as they told me I didn't want to know right now. They will tell me when I go back for my post-op next Thursday. All I can say is without the medication I'd be extremely miserable. I have had to deal with nosebleeds which come on unexpectedly - ugh. Glad everything is progressing well for you.
