Do I need extractions to correct the change to my profile?

#1 Post by aznfayeth »

The braces made my upper and lower teeth flare out at a 45 degree angle, resulting in a duck bill or beak. I have 6 months left of treatment and the elastics I got 6 weeks ago only seem to make my lower teeth flare out more! I really really want my old profile back! Are extractions the only solution? Please help!

pre braces, no duck bill!

now my mouth protrudes like crazy and I have to move my chin up in order to be able to close my mouth!

Hi - there is a difference between the two photos. But, just from seeing your mouth in the BW photo, it looks nice, your lips look fuller (orthos seem to take this change into consideration with women, because a fuller mouth is often desirable - you'd have to check with one of the pros though of course). I recently got my tops off and I think I understand a little what you're going through though, the feeling of 'what happened to the old me!' - I think it's just an adjustment period! Why don't you send photos of your teeth too - do they really flare at a 45° angle like you said?? also a photo of your whole face would make it easier to judge if the before was better than the after - but from what is shown here, I don't think you should panic (worse comes to worse you do the extractions...).

hope this helps you feel better!

I think you look great! Gorgeous! I think any change is going to bother you at first. If anything, I think you almost look to flat in the first pic. Also, the brackets alone are going to make your lips stick out a little more. Especially if you have ceramics...they are bigger that metal. Things are going to change so much over the course of your treatment...you may reach a happy medium!

You need to take a picture with the same exact pose as the first in order to see if there IS a difference..... same smirk, etc.... because your mouth flattens when you smile or smirk. So, give us another picture with the same mouth pose as the first.
