"let me see" questions...

#1 Post by isabel1971 »

Hello all...this is a wonderful website; thank you...
I have had my braces now for exactly 6 months. Although I am fairly comfortable with them at this point, I am still a bit uneasy when someone says: "let me see!" I really HATE to flash this inordinate amount of metal that I have at the age of 34!
How do other people handle this situation with tact?
Thanks,
Isabella

No one has ever asked me to see my braces. Strange....Maybe my mom?

I just let 'em see. Mostly people are just asking for me to smile with them. I have only had a couple people ask to see my full mouth.

I don't really get the "let me see," rather "ooh, you have braces!" I flash my metal all the time, especially at little kids. I've had several tiny tots tell me they like my teeth or ask me what was on my teeth. It's cute. When I have to pierce their ears, it sort of distracts them from the pain I'm about to inflict on them.

Same here...people aren't really asking me "let me see" but rather "when did you get braces...why...how does it feel...etc..."

My mom does ask me to see my braces though.

I would never dare ask someone to show me see their braces...I imagine it would be rather uncomfortable for the person in braces...at least I would be!

I have one person that wants to see what colors I got after every adjustment. So I flash my best metal smile and let her see. :-#)

I've had braces for almost a year now and have never been asked to show them. Another story is that when I got my braces I wanted to show them to anybody who was willing to have a look, I was so excited to finally have them  I got one "they look good on you" but mostly people acted like it was the least interesting thing they've ever seen.
Case: Impacted canines, crowding & crossbite.
Treatment: SARPE 2004/10/6, RPE 2004/9/28 - 2005/1/31, w-arch until 2005/11/22, impacted canines extracted 2005/5/18.
Braces on: top 2005/6/2, bottom 2005/8/30.
Braces off: 2008/6/9.
Retainers, phase one: expanding Hawley retainer 24/7, bonded retainers on top & bottom.

Hey!

If I find someone "lurking" at my teeth, I just open wide and say YEP I got braces and show them my grill. Then I think they are a little embarassed for staring at me.

Sometimes I ask friends to check for food (even family members)..........they don't particularly like looking in at the food stuck there. I get a lot of Ewww and turning of heads. That keeps them from doing a lot of staring too!! hahahha :D

Have fun with it! At this point there isn't much else you can do, so enjoy the ride.
