PLEASE HELP! 90% Overbite and 5mm Overjet - Invisalign??

#1 Post by snugglebum »

Could anyone please help? :(

I'm getting myself into such a state and not sure which way to turn, thank god I found this site!

I went for a consultation to my dentist who seems to think that I might be a good candidate for Invisalign.

But, I keep reading that it doesn't really help with overjets.

I'm 35 and it's just getting worse
My Arch is narrow and my lower mandible is receeding (it seems like each year!)
I have a 90% overbite and a 5mm overjet
Now my profile is so much worse and my top teeth are resting on my bottom lip. I'm so sad about it all.

I just don't want to spend $7,000 on Invisalign with the dentist unless they will really do the job. :?

I also believe now (after so much research) that I'm a candidate for jaw surgery as well as the braces. It probably explains why my jaw aches so much and clicks all the time. It's just that now one has really helped.

Could anyone recommend what I should be doing next before I go down this expensive path. I just want to fix my smile and receeding jaw.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Thanks meryaten, well, it at least helps me to think I don't think I'm going nuts and my instincts are kicking in!

I am from Toronto and I guess my next question would be if there is anyone out there who can recommend a really good Orthodontic Dentist inn Toronto.

Thanks so much for any advice.

Hi Snugglebum,

Forest Hill Orthodontics - Bruno Vendittelli

Although their production is a little over the top, he is a really good ortho - I am just finishing up invisalign with him. He has done plenty invisalign cases as well as non invisalign - and works with a LOT of adults. Check him out.

thanks lesley! I will check him out. I have also managed to get a consultation with Dr Gold (his name came up as specializing in Ibraces also) on Cumberland Ave, Toronto. At least it will be good to get another opinion and move forward! I'd rather spend the money and get it right first time! Thanks for the info :)

I wouldn't go with invisalign, no matter what your dentist says. As mentioned, it can't really help with bite problems or severly crowded/spaced teeth. I'm using invisalign for 1-3 mm crowding/spacing. I have a 2mm overbite and 5mm overjet but there isn't a good chance that it will fix that but then again my bite never bothered me so I'm pleased with just getting my teeth straight for now.

Definitely go with a 2nd or 3rd consultation.

Well, I will update after the 2nd consultation and let you know how it goes!
