IPR/Shaving - with pics!

#1 Post by new boy james »

Hello, I posted about this in the general section but thought I'd "Ask the Doc" aswell...

I'm in braces for mostly moderate upper crowding and haven't had any extractions. I'm banking on my ortho to do some enamel reduction on my front few teeth to create some space but my feeling is that quite a lot of room may need to be created. Is it possible to shave not only the front four teeth but perhaps also the canines and even pre-molars on either side???

I will ask my ortho at my next visit but would be very grateful for any information/experiences. Here are my newly-braced pics (hopefully- if i've done this correctly!!!) Thanks.

Hi everyone! I have since visited my ortho for my first adjustment and asked him about the IPR but couldn't really get a straight answer out of him - he isn't chatty at the best of times - so I'm still frustrated and in the dark.

Can the Doc or anyone please help me?? - I'd be so grateful. Can enough space be made in my mouth to allow my teeth to be straight but not in-your-face?!? I'm not sure I wanna look like Jim Carrey!!!!

Interproximal reduction (IPR) can be done at any time during treatment, and depending on circumstances, can be done all the way back to the molars

How many filings are too many?

#6 Post by multifariousgrl »

I have really small teeth and I was wondering how many times they could be filed before they injure my teeth. My lower teeth have been filed two times now and they're still not straight. (This has been done while in retainers.) Also, now it seems like my canines are huge compared to the rest of my teeth. What should I do?

You might be happily surprised James, often there is more room for teeth to move than you think. I did have IPR on my lowers, only a tiny bit, which worked beautifully.

I couldn't see for the life of me how my uppers could be put into line with no more space, but it just happens. The teeth only have to be brought forward/out a little bit for there to be heaps more space on the new circumference. At least that's how I envision it ;)

Thanks weird-wired, I hope you're right! I'm seeing quite a bit of movement already actually, I'll post some pics after my next adjustment to show everyone.

I remember looking at your great pics before when I was researching around, the way your bottom teeth moved so fast after the IPR was incredible, i'm praying for similar results!!
